Our Services - Aquatic Therapy

Aquatic Therapy is a popular treatment among our patients and many have found it to be both enjoyable and a beneficial part of their overall treatment. It has become an established treatment across our clinics.

What is Aquatic Therapy?

Aquatic Therapy is used by physiotherapists and their patients to perform gentle exercises under instruction in a shallow pool of water. The temperature of the water is warmer than a swimming pool which makes it a highly enjoyable and relaxing form of treatment. It can be used to treat a wide range of conditions and is very useful for rehabilitation after an accident or surgery due to its low-impact on the joints and muscles.

The warm water used in Aquatic Therapy means that the physiotherapist can use a programme of exercise that might not be possible out of the water and it is this aspect that makes it such a good choice for a variety of conditions and patients with challenging mobility needs.

How can Aquatic Therapy help me?

The benefits of Aquatic Therapy are two-fold. Primarily it is used to relieve pain by relaxing the muscles and increasing blood circulation. The resistance provided by the water means that exercises performed can also be beneficial for strengthening muscles and increasing mobility. Aquatic Therapy is an excellent treatment as part of an overall rehabilitation programme.

As with any other exercise plan, our therapists will devise a specific programme of water-based exercise to be performed in the pool under close supervision. Back in Motion uses Aquatic Therapy after an initial assessment to ensure that it will be the right treatment for you.

We offer Aquatic Therapy on a one-to-one or group basis and will be happy to discuss the best options for you and your treatment.
